Columbia House currently has a variety of Blu-ray selections available on its site.
Columbia House—remember them?—is still around, offering A/V buffs a place to purchase their entertainment.
Sure, we know better than to get sucked into their web of high-priced home entertainment, but the Home Theater Blog says that they have one deal that might be too good to pass up.
Apparently, they are sending out flyers that offer three Blu-ray movies for only $4.99. However, that offer will lock you into a processing fee and a membership deal. According to the original story, it looks as though the service’s HD selections are pretty slim and there was no mention of the “processing fee,” but it did say that the membership means you need to buy another three discs at $28.95 each.
We couldn’t find any mention of the deal on Columbia House’s website. In fact, they don’t even have a Blu-ray section. You’ll need to type it into the search field to find out what’s offered.
While that all sounds like fairly normal pricing, I might still be on file for an LP fiasco back in my formative years.
Would you be willing to get locked in for those low-low prices?

I just want to draw attention to the fact that this review is from 2008 and is not current. Also, I’m a member of both Columbia House’s regular DVD club and their TV DVD club, and am cotemplating joining their new & current Blu-Ray DVD club. They do have some really good deals, and if you have any memberships where you earn Points or cash from your shopping or trying new offers/products, I recommend giving Columbia House a try if you are an avid movie collector. I’m not even a movie collector, but can get really great deals on the one’s I really want using their club. They have discounts & member deals ALL the time, as well as a super-wide selection AND a Blu-Ray section. They also sell console games & have great customer service.
Just wanted to add my two cents, since this review is not current. :) Good luck!
Considering the days ahead and the oft deals to be had from competing retailers (web and B&M;) agreeing to a contract at full retail prices, for a slim selection is not something the average videophile is wont to do. Nothing fills a shelf with poor choices like poor selection + obligation. I cringe when i look at some of the HD DVD’s I received for FREE!
The woven acoustic screen is now available in a retractable, masking version.
Centralized home control and automation plus boatload of A/V options including dropdown theater screen revitalize 12K-square-foot home.
Should TV manufacturers offer dumbed-down TVs that focus on image quality rather than apps?
Say hello to home control in this high-tech palace, circa 2006.
Post Edit: Oops, I just saw that the Blu-Ray club is only for Canadians at this time. Just wanted to add that for any US residents who were interested. All the same though, their regular DVD and TV DVD clubs both have Blu-Rays, so you can still get them through those. ;)
