We’re as excited about the iPad as the next gadget geek. But there are a few things that are missing - OK, a lot of things.
But we can’t argue with quantity, and Apple says the iPad came out of the gate with 150,000 apps. That’s great, but they aren’t exactly new apps. They are the ones you’ve come to know, love and curse from the current iPhone store. Yes, all of those apps will work on the iPad. We love the whole backwards-compatibility thing, but let’s face it: They aren’t really designed for the iPad.
While developers are dying to tweak and possibly create an entirely new stream of revenue, it’s been kind of hard. You see, Apple doesn’t have 150,000 iPads to loan out. According to The New York Times, most have been relying on software that recreates the iPad. The NYT isn’t complaining, though; they are one of the companies that got an actual loaner unit.
Now for the other 149,999 apps out there, there is time and hope. There are many apps out there that are more than worthy of iPad status. Instapaper is one of our favorites. They are already blabbing about what they will look like on the iPad. That’s just one of the reasons they are a favorite. Another is because what they are showing gets us psyched about what’s to come.
The iPhone has already changed the way the world looks at technology, home automation and instant gratification. With 150,000 possibilities out there, though, it’s sort of hard to get lost in the mix. What current apps will make the iPad a must-have for you?
