Halloween is right around the corner. Ghosts, ghouls, and the undead will soon be the norm outside every house with the front porch light on. In that spirit, I thought I’d resurrect a few past deals from the dead.
The first is Vann’s spectacular pricing on the Energy RC Mini and RC Mini CC speakers. The Mini, a high-quality, compact, 4” bookshelf with cherry veneer, is selling for $90/each, while the matching Mini CC center is going for $130/each.
Vann’s usually has great combo deals as well, but I’d avoid those listed with the Mini and Mini CC. The 2 x Mini + CC combo prices higher than they do individually, and the 4 x Mini + CC + ESWC10 includes a pretty weak subwoofer for the price.
Back from the NewEgg graveyard is the Onkyo HT-RC160 AVR, which is identical to the well-regarded SR607 sans the front HDMI input, for $349.
This time, The Egg is packing in a free UP-A1 iPod/iPhone dock (a $99 value), making this an even better deal. Other key features include 7 x 80w RMS amplification, TrueHD and DTS-HD MA decoding, 5/1 HDMI in/out, dual subwoofer outputs, Faroudja DCDi Edge video processing, and Audyssey 2EQ automatic room correction.

Amazon is slashing 37 percent off the cost of Onkyo’s 3D-enabled AVR.

Sayonara, set-top box? Or will it just take an energy-saving nap?
It’s hard to imagine life without remote controls, but it’s been a long, strange path to the modern incarnation we know and love today.
